Health officials remain cautiously optimistic about the statewide numbers but fear a surge as the state begins to reopen further. Chicagoans will have to wait until at least early June before they will see an easing of restrictions. Pritzker announced regions could potentially shift into phase four of the plan as soon as late June amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Frost is the formation of thin ice crystals on the ground or other surfaces in the form of scales, needles, feathers, or fans. If a frost period is severe enough to end the growing season or delay its beginning, it is referred to as a “killing frost”. Frost in both spring and fall can be a concern to farmers, landscapers, and gardeners.
However, we usually do not directly measure frost at weather stations in Illinois. Sometimes observers may note the presence of frost in their comments on the forms. On calm, clear nights, the cold, dense air collects near the ground. Under these conditions, the temperature near the ground can be a few degrees cooler than at the 5-foot height of the official National Weather Service temperature sensors.
The maps represent the period of to , to match the standard normals. The median represents the middle value in the range of dates and is less sensitive than the average to unusually early or late dates. It also fits better with the maps of the earliest, latest, 10th percentile 1 in 10 years , and 90th percentile 9 in 10 years , since the median is the 50th percentile.

People date in every city wait, they do, right? From two degrees of separation to three months of festivals and constant drinking — crap, we do that all year long — finding love in the Windy City is just, well, different. Here’s how Thing is, that sheer and utter laziness also makes this time of year basically a nonstop hookup fest, mostly because everyone would rather, um, “keep each other warm” than go outside and freeze their asses off on a traditional date. By the time Memorial Day rolls around, Chicagoans are ready to go hard.
Weekends and hell, even weekdays are a blur of street festivals, endless parties, day drinking in beer gardens, and partying on Lake Michigan. Needless to say, commitment levels tend to take a nosedive during this time of year. You are bound to run into an ex, friend of an ex, relative of the ex No joke. It happens. A lot. Despite being a major city, Chicago is still part of the down-to-earth Midwest, which means you might have a better chance in Chicago of meeting your future spouse while playing bags on the sidewalk and drinking wine out of a red plastic Solo cup.
Cubs or Sox will always come up in conversation, and the wrong answer could basically ruin everything.

The fire killed approximately people, destroyed roughly 3. A long period of hot, dry, windy conditions, and the wooden construction prevalent in the city led to the conflagration. The fire leapt the south branch of the Chicago River and destroyed much of central Chicago and then leapt the main branch of the river, consuming the Near North Side. Help flowed to the city from near and far after the fire. The city government improved building codes to stop the rapid spread of future fires and rebuilt rapidly to those higher standards.
A donation from the United Kingdom spurred the establishment of the Chicago Public Library , a free public library system, a contrast to the private, fee-for-membership libraries common before the fire. City officials never determined the exact cause of the blaze, but the rapid spread of the fire due to a long drought in the prior summer, strong winds from the southwest, and the rapid destruction of the water pumping system explain the extensive damage of the mainly wooden city structures.
There has been much speculation over the years on a single start to the fire. The most popular tale blames Mrs. O’Leary’s cow , who allegedly knocked over a lantern; others state that a group of men were gambling inside the barn and knocked over a lantern. The fire’s spread was aided by the city’s use of wood as the predominant building material in a style called balloon frame. More than two-thirds of the structures in Chicago at the time of the fire were made entirely of wood, with most of the houses and buildings being topped with highly flammable tar or shingle roofs.
